The 25 employees working at the canteen for the Jilin Changbai Mountain Protection Development Management Committee have been making their own very special contribution while at their posts during the period of novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control.

The canteen provides food for those working on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control, according to Changbai Mountain protection zone officials.

At 3:40 am every day, two staff members from the canteen -- Zhu Guili and Wang Yanli -- go there to prepare breakfast for more than 200 people.

While breakfast is being prepared, other workers come to the canteen successively, packaging and sorting breakfast for different departments according to their orders.

At 8:15 am, representatives from various departments are scheduled to have their breakfast. After this, workers at the canteen need to prepare lunch for more than 700 people.

Zheng Dawei, chef at the canteen, said that the workers are often too tired to eat lunch every day -- and they need to package 752 boxed meals before 11:00 am, meaning that packaging staff need to work, bent over, for more than an hour.

At 11:20 am, representatives from various departments get their lunch. After a quick lunch at about 1:10 pm, canteen workers start to prepare for dinner for 335 people.

At 4:30 pm, representatives from various departments get their dinner. And at 6:30 pm, workers participate in a meeting to review the day’s work and make preparations for work the following day.

Staff members then disinfect the canteen every day before leaving, officials said.

Since mid-February, the canteen has provided more than 16,520 boxed meals and employees there need to work twice as much as before, according to officials.

While talking about a mountain of work, staff members at the canteen said that although tired, they were making their own special contribution to the epidemic’s control and defeat, which made them happy.
