Jilin reduces poverty through science, technology
|The Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology has issued a raft of measures to help speed up the reduction of poverty in China's northeastern province, according to local reports.
Officials said the measures were focusing on tackling poverty by means of introducing science and technology projects and top professionals to local areas, as well as introducing advanced agricultural technologies to impoverished areas.
They said from 2018 to 2020, the province invested about 8.1 million yuan ($1.14 million) in 48 science and technology poverty alleviation projects in impoverished counties, invested 5.32 million yuan in introducing 252 science and technology professionals in these areas and trained up more than 3,000 scientific and technical personnel there.
As a result, top class personnel offered science and technology services in 1,489 poverty-stricken villages in the province, to help them get rid of poverty.
In addition, the department of science and technology organized the distribution of 32 pamphlets on poverty alleviation. These covered 32 areas of agricultural technology, including crop cultivation and pest control, animal husbandry, beekeeping and silkworm breeding.
Officials said the department also encouraged the establishment of technical cooperatives, to strengthen the village collective economy and consolidate achievements in poverty alleviation.
