Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, was listed as one of the "top 10 wonderful life cities in China" in 2019-2020, according to a recent announcement by the China Media Group.

The survey -- jointly launched by the National Bureau of Statistics, China Post and the National School of Development of Peking University -- included more than 20 indicators in three specific areas -- a sense of gain, happiness and a sense of security.

The survey was distributed through postmen sending questionnaires to households and to passengers on airplanes, and a total of 130,000 responses to the questionnaire were collected.

Apart from Changchun, the other cities to make the list were Shanghai, Changsha, Beijing, Qingdao, Kunming, Jinan, Haikou, Shenzhen and Xiamen.

The survey also showed that Changchun residents' satisfaction with their social assistance ranked number one in the country, while their satisfaction with city's image, water and air quality ranked second among 36 large and medium cities in the country.

Moreover, the number of people who felt very happy in general was 12 percentage points higher than the national average.

Officials said the recognition was a major achievement in the city's accelerated modernization. They said Changchun is becoming an international auto city, a national regional innovation center, an international film hub and is also home to the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone.

Despite being a traditional industrial base in Northeast China, Changchun is being hailed as one of the four garden cities in China.

Officials added that with the continued revitalization of Northeast China, the city was being injected with new vigor and vitality.
