China-Europe freight train records progress in Jilin
The China-Europe freight train service (Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe International Rail Freight Line), which is the first freight train in Jilin province linked to Europe, has become a new path for Changchun to actively be integrated into the Belt and Road Initiative and as a regional central city in Northeast Asia.
The freight train began round trips in August 2015, and has transported a total of 57,998 TEUs of imported and exported goods as of last year.
The value of the goods amounted to 13.5 billion yuan ($2.08 billion). At present, the cumulative transportation volume ranks among the top in the country.
In the face of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the freight train carried a total of 107,900 metric tons of cargo, an increase of 11.6 percent year on year. The value of goods was 3.09 billion yuan, and the province's goods accounted for 47 percent.
So far, the freight train has achieved direct connections with 25 railway stations in 10 European countries.
The business covers South Korea, Japan, Northeast China, the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and other regions, serving nearly 3,000 companies including Fortune 500 companies, and transporting more than 2,000 types of goods.
The freight train provides strong logistics support for domestic, international and regional business activities and the large-scale consumer demand in cities as well as stimulating the economic vitality of inland areas.
The transportation time of the freight train is more than 25 days shorter than that of sea transportation, and only a quarter of the cost of air transportation.
"Made in China", "Made in Jilin" and "Made in Changchun" products have been increasing their market share in the European market due to shorter transportation time and lower costs, and more and more high-quality foreign products are available in Changchun city.
