Chinese automaker FAW Group launched its new Hongqi E-QM5 car model – a new energy vehicle (NEV) – in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province, on Nov 11, according to local media reports.
By the end of the month, a total of 2,000 Hongqi NEVs will have gone into operation in Changchun.
As one of the first pilot cities for the application of NEV battery replacement modes in the country, Changchun is helping FAW to accelerate the development of NEVs and intelligent networked vehicles, as well as promoting the construction of major projects.
In 2020, FAW produced 45,940 new energy vehicles and sold 41,804, year-on-year increases of 22 percent and 58 percent.

Changchun is making efforts to promote the construction of smart battery replacement stations. The first phase of 22 smart battery replacement stations have been completed and put into operation, which can meet the battery replacement needs of 1,500 new energy vehicles.
A major auto industry project called "Qi E Chuncheng", aimed at promoting a green approach to travel as well as the development of the provincial auto industry, was officially launched on March 1 in Changchun.
The project represents a major innovation from FAW in cross-industry co-construction, cross-business cooperation and implementation within the scenario of smart city travel applications.
In the next three years, 34,000 Hongqi NEVs will be launched in Jilin province.
By 2025, the project is expected to integrate people, vehicles, roads, management, online cloud storage and utilities and meet the development goals of testing, operational demonstrations, commercial demonstrations and industrial development.
