Northeast China's Jilin province reported 1,456 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and 397 new asymptomatic infections on March 16.

In addition to one patient who was discharged from hospital in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, 23 more people were reported cured and discharged from hospitals on the day.

Close to 95 percent of COVID-19 cases in the recent resurgence of infections in Jilin are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, local authorities said.

Conditions for the vast majority of patients with mild or moderate symptoms have improved after treatment, while very few of these patients are understood to have so far progressed to severe or critically ill cases.

As of March 16, construction of eight pop-up hospitals with 11,488 beds had been completed and two temporary quarantine facilities, which boast 662 isolation rooms, had been established in the province.

Two pop-up hospitals are under currently construction with a total of 5,064 beds, one in Changchun – capital of the province – and one in Jilin city. What's more, five quarantine sites are under construction with a total of 27,555 isolation rooms, four in Changchun and one in Jilin city.

Centralized isolation management is scheduled to be implemented for patients with mild symptoms. The centralized isolation places cannot be used to isolate inbound travelers, close contacts and other groups at the same time.

During the isolation management period, symptomatic treatment and condition monitoring are set to be performed. If the patient's condition worsens, they will then be transferred to a designated hospital for treatment.
