Northeast China's Jilin province is mobilizing all resources through unimpeded channels to ensure living necessities for residents amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
In the provincial capital of Changchun, the local government held a press conference on March 29 to respond to local residents' food purchase and delivery needs.
Liu Renyuan, deputy secretary-general of the Changchun municipal government, said that local authorities have launched a joint guarantee and supply mechanism, and other provinces such as Hebei and Shandong have supplied food to Changchun. The municipal government has arranged for a number of supply companies to increase stock through multiple channels.
He added that about 1,000 metric tons of vegetable packages are being directly delivered from other cities and autonomous prefectures every day, alleviating the lack of food sorting and distribution personnel.

On the same day, Jilin's Governor Han Jun inspected Jilin No 30 Middle School, Xintiandi Supermarket, and the vegetable distribution center of Qilintuanshan Group on-site in another city Jilin, checking living necessities supply and delivery work.
Jilin No 30 Middle School is serving as a temporary vegetable transit site. As of 2 am on March 30, the site had sold 150 tons of vegetables, and 300 tons of vegetables will arrive on March 31.
Han emphasized at the school that it is necessary to strengthen personnel allocation, increase loading and unloading speed, use a contactless distribution model, and strictly implement the point-to-point closed-loop management of staff members to ensure supplies and prevent the spread of the pandemic.
At Xintiandi Supermarket, Han asked about the inventory of goods and manpower, and learned about the current difficulties faced by small supermarkets in terms of supplies.
He communicated via video with all districts, the special team for supply guarantee and persons in charge of supermarkets in the city of Jilin, ordering people to ensure a sufficient supply of living necessities.
He encouraged those in charge of the supermarkets in the city to expand the procurement of vegetables, fruits and other commodities, and increase distribution to help control the pandemic.
Han also emphasized that the health monitoring of personnel working with supplies should be strengthened, closed-loop management should be implemented, and disinfection work should be done thoroughly to prevent the spread of the virus. For people without families, those living alone, and low-income households, door-to-door food delivery services must be carried out.
At the vegetable distribution base of Qilintuanshan Group, Han asked the company to further increase food procurement, speed up the sorting of vegetables, and strengthen the organization of distribution to deliver vegetable packages to residents' homes as soon as possible.
