A Man
Industriousness is the foundation of farmers' life. Even if they are rich, Wang Hongbao and his wife still go into the greenhouse at three in the morning and finish work at around eight in the evening, just like before.
"This is the ethos of our Beigou Village. Every family is like this. Everyone is loath to lag behind in earning money. No one becomes conceited and quits when he/she has some money." While working, Wang Hongbao talked about their transition experience from poverty to wealth.
Before 2008, Wang Hongbao and his wife Li Fengxin worked on various construction sites, and their income was only enough to support their daily life. At the end of 2007, when the two returned home for Chinese New Year, the village was mobilizing the villagers to build vegetable greenhouses, and Wang Hongbao decided to stay and work in the village.
To build a greenhouse would cost 70,000 to 80,000 yuan at least, and Wang Hongbao did not have enough funds. Liu Zhanwen, then the Party Secretary of the village, realized Wang Hongbao's difficulties, so he served as a guarantor for the Wangs to get a subsidized loan of 70,000 yuan from the credit union and then lent Wang Hongbao 5,000 yuan in cash from his own pocket. With the help of the people around him, Wang Hongbao built his first greenhouse.
Because of the lack of experience in building greenhouses and growing vegetables, Wang Hongbao did not catch up with the first crop of vegetables. In June, he planted the second crop of tomatoes. After the autumn harvest, Wang Hongbao sold tomatoes only for a bit more than 10,000 yuan.
"This is very pool return on investment!" Wang Hongbao was discouraged. Liu Zhanwen went to Wang Hongbao's house to encourage him to keep working for another year. Other village cadres and Party members also came to Wang Hongbao's house to help solve problems and impart experience.
In the second year, the market situation improved, and Wang Hongbao earned more than 40,000 yuan from the vegetables of a greenhouse. Wang Hongbao tasted the sweetness and built another greenhouse in the third year.
Seeing that there are more and more greenhouses in the village, Wang Hongbao no longer has to go out of the village to sell vegetables. Every year before the vegetables are out of the greenhouses, the vegetable traders rush to and stay in the village to buy the goods.
"We owe our old Party Secretary for our village’s growth today. He has vision and means business. He first led the village cadres and party members to build and work in the greenhouses, and when he succeeded, he led the whole village to do it. Everything has to be scaled and scaled. When it gets bigger, so does our courage, and we have confidence in quoting prices.” Wang Hongbao told reporters that, after taking office, the new Party Secretary continued to work on the foundation laid by the old Party Secretary . This year, the village will build houses uniformly. The new houses are close to the greenhouses. The house quality is good and it is convenient for us to work in the greenhouses.
