Chemical fibers manufacturer Jilin Chemical Fiber Group Co – based in the Changyi district of Jilin city, in Northeast China's Jilin province – is continuing to power ahead, after having already become the country's biggest carbon fiber production center.

In recent years, the company has played a key role in vigorously developing the region's carbon fiber industry and is continuing to pave the way for further expansion of the sector.

It is planning to launch a 400,000-metric-ton carbon fiber industry supply chain project – ranging from raw silk, to carbon fibers to composite materials.

Under the province's development plan, Jilin city is expected to pursue breakthroughs in its bid to transform itself into a chemicals city focusing on new materials.

According to the blueprint, the city will accelerate the construction of key projects such as Jilin Chemical Fiber's ethylene transformation and other projects that upgrade the entire industrial supply chain.

Last September, the province issued a policy called Several Measures to Promote High-Quality Development of Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Industry.

In addition, 19 policy measures were drafted that cover specific areas: optimizing the industry's layout, highlighting innovation and leading players, strengthening the supply chain, ensuring the supply of the factors of production and boosting policy support.

Currently, Jilin province has an annual production capacity of 60,000 metric tons of carbon fiber precursors and a production capacity of 25,000 tons of carbon fiber, ranking it first in the country.

With Jilin Chemical Fiber Group Co as the lead enterprise, Jilin city now boasts 19 R&D and carbon fiber producers, including 12 above a designated scale – those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.99 million) or more.

What's more, the carbon fiber industrial hub in the Jilin Economic and Technological Development Zone has been recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a "national carbon fiber high-tech industrialization base".

In 2021, the carbon fiber industry supply chain in Jilin city achieved an output value of 3.13 billion yuan, a huge year-on-year increase of 114.9 percent. Moreover, the production capacity and output of raw silk and carbon fiber ranked number one in China.
